Emergency Passports

Please note that you are required to attend in-person at our office in Geneva to apply for an Emergency Passport. Emergency passport services are not available in Bern or Zurich.

You may attend Monday to Friday, between 9:00–11:00am or 2:00–3:30pm, to allow sufficient time to complete the required documentation.

What to Bring:

Please bring the following items to your appointment (where available):

  • Two recent, good‑quality printed passport‑size photographs that meet Australian passport requirements - Passport photos | Australian Passport Office. If you are unable to obtain printed photos prior to your visit, photographs can be taken at the Consulate.
  • Any original identification documents you may still have that show your name and/or photograph. If all documents have been lost or stolen, this will not prevent the issue of an emergency passport.
  • Proof of your current residential address (digital copies are acceptable and may be emailed to us).
  • Police report (not required to issue an emergency passport but may be needed to claim with your travel insurance provider).
  • Credit or debit card to pay the Emergency Passport fee of AUD $265 (2026 fee). If you do not have a credit card, another person may pay on your behalf. At your appointment, we can send an SMS or email payment link to the payer for online payment.

Please note that the Emergency Passport application form and additional documentation will be completed in our office during your appointment.

Emergency Passport Processing and Travel Considerations:

Emergency passports can take up to 2 business days to process; however, in most instances we aim to have the passport ready by approximately 3:00 pm on the following business day.

Note that an Emergency Passport:

  • Does not contain a chip
  • Has four visa pages only
  • Is issued with a validity of 7–12 months, depending on your travel itinerary

IMPORTANT: You must confirm with the countries you are travelling to and/or transiting through to confirm that they accept Emergency Passport for entry or transit:
